Dua hari yang lalu, tepatnya tanggal 23 April, saat saya mengikuti kelas Ekstrakurikuler Jurnalistik, Pak Donny selalu pembina mengatakan bahwa hari itu juga bertepatan dengan Hari Buku Sedunia. Pak Donny memberikan pilihan kepada saya dan teman teman lainnya.
Boleh meneruskan menulis materi resensi film Grave Of The Fireflies atau membuat tulisan tentang Hari Buku Sedunia. Akhirnya saya dan satu teman saya memilih menulis Hari Buku Sedunia. Menurut saya Hari Buku Sedunia ini menarik karena banyak pelajaran yang bisa kita ambil.
Termasuk contoh mengapa buku hari ini masih jarang diminati oleh banyak orang di Indonesia. Menurut saya hal itu dikarenakan, banyak orang di sekitar kita senang bermain sosial media, menonton video pendek, sampai berjam-jam. Dan mungkin juga, video dan konten itu lebih menarik perhatian mereka daripada membaca sebuah buku.
Akibatnya, untuk tingkat membaca buku dari data yang baca di internet, Indonesia disebut oleh UNESCO sebagai negara yang memiliki persentase membaca hanyalah 0.001%. Artinya, masih ada sekitar 70% orang Indonesia kesulitan membaca.
Sebenarnya, kita harus ingat sebuah pepatah yang mengatakan : buku adalah jendela dunia. Yang artinya, meskipun hanya dengan membaca buku, tetapi kita bisa memperoleh banyak ilmu dan pengetahuan.
Ya meskipun segala informasi sekarang sudah beredar di Internet, namun berliterasi dengan buku tetap penting. Karena apa ? Dampak dari minimnya literasi sangatlah buruk.
Misalnya, jika terdapat suatu berita hoaks, namun yang melihat, membaca, dan mendengarnya minim literasi, pastilah berita itu viral dan akan dipercaya oleh siapapun.
Nah sebagai santri, kita jangan sampai memiliki literasi yang minim. Karena sudah jelas dalam Alquran, bahwa Iqro atau bacalah, adalah wahyu pertama yang diterima oleh Nabi Muhammad SAW.

Dan, menurut beberapa sumber yang saya baca, untuk mengatasi efek negatif dari minimnya budaya berliterasi, kita harus membawa kesadaran pentingnya membaca kepada lingkungan terdekat kita. Sebab, membaca buku dapat memberikan dampak positif bagi tubuh maupun bagi kesehatan mental.
Dampak positifnya adalah dari hobi membaca buku adalah menambah wawasan dan pengetahuan. Contohnya, ketika kita belajar tentang ilmu sosial, maka kita dapat lebih baik dalam berempati, memahami, dan meningkatkan hubungan dengan masyarakat.
Contoh lainnya adalah, kemampuan fokus dan tingkat berfikir kita akan meningkat. Karena dengan membaca buku, otak kita terus bekerja mencerna informasi yang kita baca.
Dan yang terakhir, dampak positif membaca buku juga ikut menjaga kesehatan mental kita. Karena kita bisa berimajinasi, berfikir, dan merasa ada hal-hal baru untuk dipelajari.
Karena memang, membaca adalah olahraga bagi otak yang dapat membuat pikiran tidak mudah stress.
Jadi mulai sekarang, jangan ragu untuk terus membaca buku. Atau memiliki hobi baru membaca buku. Dengan membaca buku kita juga akan menemukan solusi dari masalah yang ada. Selamat Hari Buku Sedunia.
